Spiderweb Solids

I had my sewing room floor covered with the boxes where I keep my solids, and I was determined to get this block done before I cleaned up tonight.  I used some of my favorite low-volume text (an old one from Sweetwater about growing things), cut random strips and sewed sewed sewed.

I cut the strips in a variety of widths, with the largest (the green) at 2".  I do like having a variety of widths, but am thinking my only advice would be to cut them smaller--say, the largest at 1 1/2" width.  Perhaps because they are solids, the wider pieces pop out more, and I think are a little harder to work with.  I was trimming down a lot.

I think this is going to be a smashing quilt!

The blocks are in the mail--for Carla

Today I put these four blocks in the mail for Carla.
I have also left then unsewn for her to distribute as she puts the top together.

Interestingly, after posting these on Instagram first, Linda commented that she liked the upper right block and someone else agreed. I was afraid all the fabrics "mushed" together too much because of the white outlines around all the squares in the print, making it more difficult to see the churn dash.

But I hope it works well in the whole scheme of things.

Oh, and I'm so glad we have our own blog!

Four More, Dashed

It's always fun to make churn dash blocks. Carla's tutorial makes them so easily, and in such an efficient way.
4-1/2" (unfinished) Churn Dash blocks
After cutting, I apply the "web" method of piecing together the patches. The web is the same way I put together a block quilt top. Like Carla's block-piecing method, using the web technique is efficient, and helps keep blocks the right direction.
Blocks as the web.
Row-piecing the web.
My blocks are going to Carla unsewn-together, so they can mix among those we sent her last year. Carla, we can't wait to see the juicy quilt this will be! Linda/FlourishingPalms
